Great post! I think that babies change your perspective on things too. I am from VA and so we had thunderstorms a lot in the summer. We would cut off everything and try to be quiet. I have 2 little ones and we had a thunderstorm here the other day. My 2 year old thought it was a train. Either way, he did not like it. He instantly became quiet and still and within 10 minutes of me humming, he was sound asleep. I love the calmness that thunderstorms tend to bring. Have a wonderful Monday!
V didn't want to go to sleep last night because of the thunder and kept saying she was scared of it...I didn't sing her a song, but told her how much I liked the thunder and how it almost sounded like the sky was purring. She liked that and slept soundly, thank Goodness. :)
I love that a song calmed her down. We didn't have a thunderstorm, but my little one had a hard time going to sleep last night, and after and hour of tossing and turning, I went in and hummed amazing grace- she went right to sleep.
Check out Thundercake by Patricia Polacco- It's a great book about coping with thunderstorms.
I love that we all come up with different (but similar) ways to sooth our kids. During the day, I tell Little Sweets that the thunder just sounds like a big car driving past.
Do we make up little stories to calm our own fears too?
hi tricia...thanks for using my photo to add a little kick to your sweet story. my kids are grown and i can't quite remember their responses to thunder but i do have a dog that totally freaks out.... i take her in my lap with sweet, soothing words but now i think i'll try a little song! love your profile decription...it says it all!
You're welcome, Pat! I try to feature Etsy artists whenever I can. My dog freaks out too! She climbs under whatever table or desk is nearby and shakes. It's so sad because they really don't understand what's happening.
I LOVE reading your comments but don't always have time to respond to each one individually. I'll do my best to email you back or swing by your blog. *Please note that if you want a response, your email address must be visible on your Blogger profile.*
Can't say I like thunderstorms:) Even now, I am slightly afraid of them. Like the fact that an old song calmed her down:):)
